Following on from the introduction to our Managing Director, Jamie Barr, a couple of months ago, in this blog we have the second of our “Meet the Team” series.
This month we are meeting Ross Lafferty – planner, fixer, website manager and resident invoicing expert. He’s certainly someone most of our customers will be familiar with over a number of years.
We sat down to find out a little more…
Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born and raised, and still live, in nearby Paisley, finding my way to Clydebuilt through some local connections. In my previous working-life I was a bookmaker, and also studied law before settling down in the software industry, after realising how vital computers were to our everyday life.
What is your job title and can you describe what you do?
I work in the Projects team, while providing assistance in support as well. I tend to be the main person for dealing with reporting and invoicing within our products. Oh, and I also manage this website!
How long have you worked for Clydebuilt?
Gulp! I hate to think about this as it makes me feel old! I first joined the company 19 years ago in August and, apart from a year out, I have been here ever since!
What is the favourite project or product that you have worked on with Clydebuilt?
That would probably be our web-based products, as I like that they involve us interacting with a greater number of people, on a wider scale, offering functionality to our customers and our customers’ customers, and maybe beyond. A lot of the web implementations tend to be slightly bespoke as well, so I like being involved in the creative side of things, customising graphics and interfaces to suit whatever the requirements may be.
Do you have a favourite thing about Clydebuilt?
I like that we’re always looking to help our customers, and we always do that little bit extra to make sure that they have exactly what is required. We’re always willing to cater for our customers’ needs and don’t try to fit them into a way of working that isn’t necessarily going to suit.
What’s your drink of choice in the office?
I’ll usually be found with a coffee, but I like to mix it up, sometimes adding some chocolate, sometimes with milk, sometimes without. Occasionally I’ll use the pod machine as well and see what flavours John has added to the collection!
What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
Probably an Architect. I did study Architecture briefly at university when I left school, but found it wasn’t for me quite early on and looked at other options.
What website do you visit the most?
Google! Easy! I’m always Googling something!
What was the last book you read?
I’m currently reading ‘Why We Sleep’, which is a book that discusses the science of sleep and how important it is for our health and well-being. I’m hoping it helps me improve my own sleep patterns!
Where are we likely to find you outside of work?
I like to exercise and get outdoors, so you might find me on the golf course or out a run in the evenings, or sometimes even at sunrise. At the weekend you’ll usually find me at a football match featuring one of my local teams, St Mirren or Arthurlie. Some might say I’m a glutton for punishment! Haha.
